Default Texmod +Carth

I recently started mapping, and I decided I would use Texmod this time...

I have the Made_Easy mod (Blue "glue over the map") and I just finished the scalon Areas...

However, I have 3 questions:

-> When you use Texmod, is it nececary to "Wall-Hug", or does Texmod show the "actual" area that U have explored? As in, if you NEVER wallhugged, BUT you do have EVERYTHING uncovered in Texmod, will you have 100%?
Still in other words: Does TEXMOD "unhide" the hidden %'s that you get by "wall-hugging"?

-> There is certain places where I have MORE than Texmod shows. I actually uncovered "large" parts of "black". Will they give me leeway?

-> Is there any way to explore Ascalon Arena? As in, have a "lucky" Moa-bird spawn behind the boundries of the map? This way you could sue Necrotic to still get in the Arena's...

Yes it does unhide it when you hug the area or corner.

i'll try to SS some proof later.

Texmod will show you what would be needed to achieve 100% cartographer, but there's actually more map than the 100% the title requires, so there is a little leeway. You may clear an area that the mod designer didn't, whilst they may have cleared an area you haven't cleared, or can't clear (such as most of the old arenas throughout the map which are now inaccessible since the Battle Isles were added to the game)

There's no harm in wallhugging even if texmod shows all the area you're in as clear, since, as you've found out, there's areas not included in the mod's mappable area, the black bits, and these count toward the title. However the texmod map may be showing a thoroughly wallhugged clearable area for many of the zones, so wallhugging does not guarantee you'll get more than the mod overlay indicates.

If you're >level 10 then the Ascalon arena (not the arena hub) is also out of bounds, but it is possible to map Tyria without any of the arenas.

Let me explain how the exploration texmod feature works.
The developers have probably taken one or several 100% maps and composed those to a 'difference' layer.
What the Texmod feature shows is where your map differs from their map(s).
Clearing exactly the areas given by Texmod will give you 100%, since the base maps are 100% or somewhat more.

As you found out there are parts of the map that you can explore but are not covered by Texmod.
This is because while the base maps used by Texmod are 100%+, they are not perfect. Those black areas do count for exploration, meaning you don't have to uncover all areas marked by Texmod to get 100% if you found black.

In the forums for each continent there are sticky topics on exploration.
If you have specific questions about exploring an area you can post them there.

All the carto mod does is make the visual difference between "uncovered," "uncoverable but not uncovered yet," and "not uncoverable" easier to see.

It does not uncover anything for you; it merely helps you figure out where the places you missed are.

As the_jos mentioned, the makers were working from imperfect maps, so there are a few sections marked as "not uncoverable" (black) which you can in fact uncover. Yes, for every bit of area you uncover beyond the carto mod's boundaries, that's one less bit you have to uncover later (but the carto mod already shows way more than 100% worth of uncoverable area anyway).

- Yes, it is still necessary, in some places, to "wall hug" to get some of the areas - but not all.

- As has been said, the TexMod files were based upon someone's (or more) map. The total area exposed on the TexMod maps is more than "100%". There are a few places where you can get areas that were not uncovered.

- There is no way to explore Ascalon Arena (or Shiverpeaks Arena) if you are above level 10, but these areas are not needed for 100%.

When I did this using TexMod, I achieved 100% without ever thoroughly doing the Southern Shiverpeaks or the Ring of Fire islands. I had some areas of black that the original didn't, but I didn't have the Arenas.

I am currently using Texmod carto made easy, and what iv found it i uncover more then texmod shows i can, a good way to make sure your getting all you can is to always wall hug an area and completely uncover it using Texmod, then turn it off. now use a 100% map to compare the two and see if youve missed anything, thats what im doing and it makes it alot easier to guarentee you have got 100% available uncovered space from the map, kinda fool prood if your using a good quality 100% map, of which there are alot.
